In 2003 Smart started the implementation of investment projects in the area of agriculture and food processing. Now Smart Holding holds interests in the Kalyta group of companies and horticultural company Vesna, and also develops strategic partnership with Veres group of companies. To ensure better management effectiveness and access to external markets, Smart Holding started the process of establishing joint holding company Veres Group.

Smart Holding founded its own agricultural sub-holding Sagro in 2009. Sagro manages the following companies – Kalyta group of companies (Kyiv Region), horticultural company Vesna (the Crimea) and also develops some agricultural projects.

Kalyta group of companies is one of the largest pig farms in Ukraine with a complete production cycle, which includes Agricultural Complex Kalyta, Kalyta Experimental Animal Feed Factory, and a horticultural unit of Agricultural Complex Kalyta.

Agricultural Complex Kalyta

Agricultural Complex Kalyta was established in 1974 according to the Italian technology Gi&Gi. AC Kalyta owns a pig breeding farm and has a complete production cycle – from reproduction to fattening. Its production capacities can output 108 thousand heads per year.

In the recent years, AC Kalyta has modernized its pig fattening unit and developed the program of complete modernization.

Currently the animal stock of AC Kalyta accounts for 70 thousand pigs and 10 thousand animals in the breeding unit. The factory produces around 800-900 tons of pork monthly.

AC Kalyta employs more than 760 workers.

Kalyta Experimental Animal Feed Factory

Kalyta Experimental Animal Feed Factory is an industrial facility with its own processing and storage capacities that can process up to 24 thousand tons in one cycle. It produces animal feed mixes for pig farming and other types of animal feed.

The plant can produce up to 400 tons of animal feed per day. It employs 170 workers.

The horticultural unit of agriconsortium Kalyta cultivates around 400 000 acres of land and supplies Kalyta feed factory with raw materials in the scope of 3 thousand tons of grains and 12 thousand tons of corn per year.

Kalyta group of companies is currently working on modernizing its production facilities to improve its competitiveness, as well as quality of products. The group also considers further consolidations, in order to launch products of extended processing stages. First of all, it concerns slaughter and meat processing units.

Veres Group is a vertically integrated holding, the structure of which includes the enterprises specializing in production, storage and processing of agricultural products. The range of products of the Group consists of more than 100 items.

Among the assets of Veres Group are four food processing factories in Cherkassy region, one factory in Zakarpatskiy region, logistical centers in Cherkassy and Korsun-Shevchenkivsky, a transportation company, farming enterprises in Cherkassy, Zakarpattia and Nikolaev regions, the largest in Ukraine and Eastern Europe champignon producer Ukrchampignon, and trading houses in Ukraine and Russia.

In June 2008 Veres extended its range of products with a series of frozen food products, which are produced at Cherkassy Food Plant.
